Awesome-Tasting Food!! // passion tea lemonade

One thing I have to have every summer is Passion Tea Lemonade from Starbucks. It is one of the most refreshing drinks I've had. Since I don't go to Starbucks all the time I've tried to recreate it and really it is very simple.  Every time it turns out a little different, but I love it. The only problem is when my family sees it and then I have to make a whole gallon by the time I'm done!!

Passion Tea Lemonade (my version)

~TAZO Passion tea bags
~Lemonade      last time I used Santa Cruz Organic Lemonade.
~Little bit of sugar
~Mason jar with lid
~Lots of ice!!

Start by following the directions on the the tea box for how to make the tea.
One bag should make at least two servings of this lemonade.

If you've never had TAZO Passion tea before here is what it looks like:

Let the tea cool down by putting it in the fridge for a couple hours. Yep, I put mine in my mason jar for this part too!!

Next, take about equal parts tea and lemonade, put them into your jar. Screw the lid on and shake about 10 times.  If your lemonade is really strong then don't add quite as much. You can always put more in later if you decide it needs it.

Unscrew the lid and add as much ice as can fit. Put the lid back on and shake again.
In the end your drink should look something like this:

If it tastes to sour for you add a little sugar and shake it up again.

And there you have it, one of my favorite drinks ever!!

The nice thing about this drink is that if it doesn't taste quite right, you can always add more lemonade, tea, or whatever and it won't ruin itself.

I'd sure like to know if you tried this and what you thought! Also, if you have your own version on how to make Passion Tea Lemonade I'd love to see it.

Awesome-Tasting Food!! // white hot chocolate

This time of year is when my family drinks a lot of hot chocolate. Notice I said "my family". I would rather drink coffee. Every once in awhile I drink hot chocolate and to tell you the truth, I think white hot chocolate is pretty good. In the middle of a freezing cold day this sounds pretty good and........it is. Now if we could only get Kansas to see some winter this year. Oh well...

Creamy Hot White Chocolate

6 cups half-and half cream, divided     you can also use whole milk or cream.
1-1/3 cups white baking chips
2 cinnamon sticks (3 inches)
1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
Dash ground nutmeg
3 teaspoons vanilla extract

Directions: In a large saucepan, combine 1/2 cup cream, chips, cinnamon sticks, cinnamon, and nutmeg. Cook and stir over low heat until chips are melted. Stir in remaining cream; heat through. Discard cinnamon sticks. Stir in vanilla. Pour into mugs and enjoy!!

Makes: 8 servings      Total Time: 10 minutes

And if you're like me, you'll top all this prettiness with whipped cream!! Yum!!  Or you can use those chemical-filled-things-called-marshmallows. I eat those too on occasion.

Have a awesome rest of your day. Oh, and tell me if you make this and what you think of it.

latte art

The other day my brother sent me the link to this clip on latte art. It is very fascinating to watch being done and very beautiful.

So far my successes have not been good at this art.
BUT,
I'm going to keep trying. We'll see what happens...

What did you think?   Are you going to try it?  If you do tell me how it goes.

Awesome-Tasting Food!! (Christmas)

Today you're going to need your crock pot for this recipe. Well, it's actually a drink, so I don't know if you consider it a recipe or not.
Anyway, Wassail is one of my favorite things at Christmastime. When wassail is in the process of mulling together, you can smell it throughout the whole house. Every year, when we watch Charlie Brown Christmas, that is something we've always had to sip on. So go get that crock pot...

Wassail

~Apple Cider
~Cranberry  Juice
~1 Orange
~Cloves
~Cinnamon Sticks  (optional)

Take your orange and the cloves and go all around the orange pushing cloves into it. (You might want to do this part on a paper towel because it can get messy) Here is an example.

Next, take equal parts of the apple cider and cranberry juice and pour into the crock pot. Add the orange and broken cinnamon sticks. Turn the crock pot on to low for at least a couple of hours. If it is still not hot enough for your taste, turn on high for a little while.  Enjoy.

poll time again...

Simple question: Do you like eggnog??

Umm...It's okay. I could never drink a whole cup of it, but if my Dad is drinking eggnog I always take a sip.  It is something I have to smell every year because it smells sooo good!!!!

What do you think?  Is it something you like? I'd love for you to vote on the right and then tell me about your favorite drink at Christmas time in the comments.

    Warm Eggnog
2 large high quality eggs
1/3 cup sugar
1 cup half and half
1/2 cup cream
1 teaspoon vanilla
nutmeg

For those of you that don't know, this is what Nutmeg looks like.

Bring 2 eggs up to room temperature. Add the eggs to a blender and blend on high until a light creamy yellow color.
In a small saucepan, heat 1/3 C sugar with the half and half and cream over a gentle heat until you can see steam rising off the surface and some bubbles start to form around the edges of the pan. With the blender running, slowly pour the hot milk mixture into the eggs through the lid. Add the vanilla and continue blending the eggnog for a minute.
Pour into glasses and enjoy!!

Have a great weekend.

milk...

Why did I bring this up? Not sure, probably because I’m off of dairy right now so milk and ice cream sound really good. Also, who doesn’t drink milk? (I’m counting people who put it on their cereal.) Everyone probably has a favorite: 2%, skim, low-fat, non-fat, whole, raw, etc.  I didn’t know there were so many kinds. My favorite would be raw, whole milk that hasn’t been touched. Oh, man, it is good.  If I get to the jug first (before someone shakes it), all the cream is on top and that is the best!
First off, some people don’t even know what raw milk is. I guess you could call it “fresh milk.” In other words it is milk right off the farm. It is natural at this state and is how God intended it to be.
You’re probably sitting there going, “Yuck, how gross, disgusting, and fattening.” If you are, then you’ve never had real milk, don’t know the health benefits, or you’re my sister. Really 2%, non-fat, and skimmed milk is just water mixed with flour (to make it white.) I’m just kidding. And milk that comes in a box, well, just throw it in the trash.
I didn’t realize how spoiled I was until we were at a camp. At each meal they had boxed milk for anyone. At home, my dad usually made chocolate milk by putting syrup in raw milk. So, of course, when he saw chocolate milk he had to drink it. And I have to take my sip which is considered a glug.  This stuff tastes like dirty water. No joke. Needless to say I didn’t drink anymore. It was just awful.

Until this point I have given you my personal opinion and you don’t have to necessary believe it. But after looking it up on the Internet, I found out that the cow’s milk is healthy, and if it’s been handled properly, the milk comes out of the cow naturally filled with “good” bacteria – the kind that eats bad bacteria. It is the kind of milk you want to drink. In early studies involving humans, raw milk was shown to be superior to pasteurized in protecting against infection, diarrhea, rickets, tooth decay and TB.
So, what is pasteurization?  I know, it is a long word. Pasteurization is where the milk is briefly heated above 118 degrees (Fahrenheit) in order to kill any bacteria, which destroys any potential value raw milk could provide.  So you end up taking out 66% of vitamins A, D, and E.  Vitamin C loss is over 50%. Heat affects water soluble vitamins and can make them 38 to 80% less effective. Vitamins B6 and B12 are completely destroyed during pasteurization. Pasteurization also destroys beneficial enzymes, antibodies and hormones.  It destroys lipase (an enzyme that breaks down fat), which impairs fat metabolism and the ability to properly absorb fat soluble vitamins A and D.
By now you should know that although the dairy industry claims this is good for the milk, it isn’t at all. If you look at all the good stuff milk loses when it is pasteurized, you will see some of the benefits of raw milk. Sometimes you can’t get raw milk where you live so the next best thing is whole milk. The less they touch it, the better.  I’ve been blessed to live 30 minutes from a friend who has a dairy. I have been impressed with everything we’ve gotten from them.
Another thing they do to the milk before it reaches the bottle is Homogenization. When milk is homogenized, it passes through a fine filter at pressures equal to 4000 pounds per square inch, and in doing so, the fat globules (liposomes) are made smaller (micronized) by a factor of ten times or more. These fat molecules become evenly dispersed within the liquid milk.
Milk is a hormonal delivery system. When the milk is homogenization it becomes a very powerful and efficient way of bypassing normal digestive processes and delivering steroid and protein hormones to the human body.
After homogenization, fat molecules in the milk become smaller. Proteins that would normally be digested in the stomach are not broken down, and are absorbed into the bloodstream. The homogenization process breaks up an enzyme, called xanthine oxidase, which when it is in the bloodstream it reacts against arterial walls causing the body to protect the area with a layer of cholesterol. This is an ongoing basis that doesn’t stop.
In theory, proteins are easily broken down by digestive processes. In reality, homogenization insures their survival so that they enter the bloodstream and deliver their messages.  Often, the body reacts to foreign proteins that resemble a human protein; they can become triggers for autoimmune diseases. Diabetes, cancer, and M.S. are some examples.

If you would like to read more on this topic you can type it into the Internet.
Now that you’re done reading this you can probably guess that I totally recommend raw milk and I think you should only use that or whole milk. With all that to say, I might as well tell you I like goat’s milk just as well.  But that is a whole different topic.

last year at this time...

...I was in Kansas City, MO. My oldest sister, Kelsey, was going to be getting married, so she wanted to take us girls on a mini trip.
We spent two days shopping, hanging out, eating out, watching movies, and just having an awesome time.

At the Crown Center Mall we stopped here and got frozen custard. I got cookie dough topping on mine.

We ate outside by their water park type thing.
(I don't know what my facial expression is about.)

After the mall, we stopped at the Union Station.

It is very pretty and grand looking inside.

In the back of the station was a model scale train museum. I find those things very interesting to watch.

And of course we had to stop and get a picture taken in front of a waterfall. I look like I wasn't to happy about it, which was probably the case.

We needed directions to somewhere and the easiest thing was to stop at McDonalds and use their free Wi-fi.

And you know we had to be nice and buy a coke and fries. :)

In the evening we went shopping at the Town Center Plaza.
Almost to fancy to shop at, but it was very pretty. Sorry, I don't have pictures of that.

Since we are Hobbs, any trip we go on has to have a stop at BassPro. Doesn't matter where you go, what you're doing, or if you have time. If you see one, that's the next stop on the list. :)

I had to play the shooting game.

...and give advise. We're pretty serious with this game.

Well, at least that's what it looks like.

Addy probably beat everybody, but I can't remember.

After that stop we headed home. Back to life...
Thanks, Kelsey, for the great time and new memories.

So, tell me about your favorite summer mini trip. I'd love to hear it.

laziness

Hey, but I have a reason.
Yesterday I went into the dentist to find out when I was going to get my wisdom teeth out.
He decided to do them right then and there.
So, today I'm being lazy and looking at anything and everything on the computer...not really.

After I got my teeth pulled my mom got me one of these.

A Pineapple Surf Smoothie is almost worth getting teeth pulled for.

But, the interesting thing is that I GOT TO PULL ONE OUT MYSELF!!!
yep, that's right, the dentist said if I wanted to I could pull one myself. I don't know anyone else who has done that, so of course I just had too. It was that bad either.

Have a great day!! and enjoy eating "real" food.

Wheat, Tea, and Whatever...

It was raining yesterday evening and Charis (my sis) was outside taking photos of the wheat. Well, I guess she did that after the rain stopped.

I love wheat fields. They can be so pretty!

The neighbor's outbuilding

I was climbing on the fence for whatever reason. It was a little windy, but what else is the KS weather like?

At supper time I tried coming up with something like the Tea I had at Starbucks.
I thought it turned out good, except it needed to be a little more sweet. My Grandma tried it and puckered up. It was really funny. She thought it was way too sour.

Passion Tea Lemonade

I have a new favorite drink...

Starbucks calls this Tazo® Shaken Iced Passion Tea Lemonade.
My brother, sister, and I were at Starbucks drinking coffee. I was sitting facing the counter, when I saw one of the workers drinking something like this. It looked so good I decided to go order it. I got up there and he asked me what I wanted and I said whatever it was that he was drinking. He said they actually didn't have it on the menu, but that it was a version if this tea. I wanted it anyway, so he made it for me. Oh my, it was sooooooo good!!!!!!!!

I think I'm going to try to come up with something like it.
