packing?

I've been packing today, because I going to North Carolina tomorrow at noon...hopefully.
At this moment I am feeling kinda like this...

but right now it looks worse than this...

My stuff is all over my bed, but soon it should be in my duffel bag. Obviously it's not going to get there that soon because I'm sitting here telling you about it. hmm...

So, I'm going to N.C. to a conference and to see my brother!!!! I can't wait to see him again and go to the conference.  After that we're headed for Pennsylvania to see my niece!!!!! and my sister...and my brother-in-law.  Somewhere in between those two we will either see the ocean and/or Washington D.C. and battlefields, and whatever else we spot.

If it were up to you would you either see Washington D.C. or the ocean??

I would tell you more but I think you know what I should be doing. :) Hopefully I will keep this thing updated while I am gone.  You all have a awesome Monday evening.

Oh, and if you want to see more about this conference I'm going too check it out here.

poll for you...

I got a poll for you to do. It's to your right, on the side bar.

Since I love the change of the seasons, I thought it would be fun to see what other people think of it. This week the weather finally changed in Kansas. Before that we were painting our house and it was still hot. AND IT WAS OCTOBER!! Something was strange, because it is NEVER hot in Kansas during October. Monday morning my sister, Addy, and I went outside to finish up the painting. We both came back in for another jacket with a hood. Five minutes later we were back in again looking for gloves. Times change...

Although I like fall, I don't think I'm ready for winter. Winter comes way to soon for me. Oh well.

Someday, I'm going to get a moose in scenery like this.

Fall is a time to drink more coffee than normal.

So, don't forget to vote on my poll. I would love it if you would tell me why you picked a certain answer. Or maybe you have something else you like about fall.

dogs, dogs, dogs

I wonder why I love dogs so much and yet I hate them. Now if I change that sentence around it would sound like this:  I wonder why I love MY dogs so much and hate my NEIGHBOR'S dogs. I love our Australian Shepherd and wouldn't know what to do without her. Actually, before we got her we used to lose a couple of chickens everyday to hawks. After she came to live with us we've only lost one chicken in 2 and a half years!!

Well, one morning last week my mom and I took a walk down the road. One of our neighbors has a dorky chihuahua that looks like the one below.

Don't they all look the same??? By the way, I don't like chihuahuas, so that didn't help. (No offence if you like them.)
Then I have no clue what the other dog is. It's about a medium height, has pointy ears, no tail, and it speckled black and gray.

On a normal day these two will come out to bark and snap at us. (That freaks my mom out because she hasn't had a good experience with dogs.) Today they decided it would be fun to follow us. Their owner must have been gone because they followed and followed, right along all the way home.  You don't know how annoying it is to have 2 ugly dogs hanging around you. At our house no one was going to want them.
They hung around for awhile to sniff everything in their reach. Not until I tossed a bucket at them did they take off running like the world had ended.

All that to say, they finally went home.

Someday if I could have a dog of my own, I'd got one of Black Lab like this.

or one of these German Shepherds.

What kind of dog do you have or would you like to own?

Awesome-Tasting Food!

Apple Dip is one of my favorite things to eat at this time of year. If you want you can use yogurt instead of cream cheese. It might make it a little more runny. Your choice.

Taffy Apple Dip

  • 1 package (8 ounces) PHILADELPHIA Cream Cheese (softened or cubed), softened
  • 3/4 cup packed brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup chopped peanuts
  • 6 apples, cut into wedges

  • In a small bowl, beat the cream cheese, brown sugar and vanilla until smooth. Spread mixture on a small serving plate; top with nuts. Serve with apple wedges.

    Makes: 6 servings.

    Enjoy!

    movie time

On September 30th we did something that we don't normally do. A long time ago my younger brother, Titus gave me a birthday present to see The Grace Card or Courageous (not sure if it was just that he wanted to see them and needed a reason to go or really wanted to take me out...hmm). I opted for Courageous just because I had been paying attention to it. (I still need to see The Grace Card.)
When the movie was about to come out, I was like "hey, when are you taking me?" I didn't worry that he'd forget because he likes movies as much as I do. But then my sisters said we weren't allowed to go without them...there went our "date".  My Dad decided he wanted to come along so he took the afternoon off. Well, you can guess what happened now. Yep, Mom wasn't gonna stay home if everyone else was going to a movie.

Of course we got there to early and I wasn't going to waste my time. I needed something to do. OrangeLeaf was across the parking lot and that was were we headed.  Now that's a real good used of time. :)

This post had turned into a long essay of my thoughts on the movie...too long. I cut it apart and I'm only going to tell you a few details I think are interesting. First off, if you haven't seen Courageous I totally recommend it. Another thing if you're used to seeing only light-hearted movies, then this one might be kinda hard. They're dealing with some serious issues.

    Favorite actor:

Would have to have been Ken Bevel, who played Nathan Hayes. This guy is natural at being a cop. He is so serious and maybe I just like the "good" guy.

    Funniest character:

Definitely Javier Martinez (played by Robert Amaya) was the funniest. The "snake king" scene still has us in stitches.

    Compared to Fireproof:
Someone asked me if I though Courageous was better than Fireproof. In a way you can't compare them because they are on two totally different topics. Fireproof follows one couple, where as Courageous follows 5 Dads. Fireproof is about marriage, Courageous is about being a father: two different things. I think Courageous has more action then Fireproof, but I like that.

    Final note:
I don't think I've ever seen a movie where I was laughing my heart out and then about to cry on the same scene. Courageous is so full of many different things, you just have to watch it.

Anything else you want to know? This was like a third of my original post.

    Awesome-Tasting Food!

Peanut butter...who doesn't like it? really, you just have too. The only problem is it makes my face break out so I don't eat it that often.

Anyway, this is a family favorite. These cookies are very soft and just have that taste. My Dad likes his cookies burnt and the rest of us like them underdone. Well, I have to do is forget about one pan until you start to smell something odd. :)

    Chocolate Peanut Butter Chip Cookies

    1 cup butter, softened
    1/2 cup sugar
    1 cup brown sugar
    1 teaspoon vanilla
    2 eggs
    2 1/2 cups flour
    1/3 cup baking cocoa
    1 teaspoon baking soda
    1/2 teaspoon salt
    1 cup peanut butter chips
    1 cup chocolate chips

Mix together butter, sugars, and vanilla. Add eggs. Add everything else except chips and mix well. Fold in chips. Bake on a cookie sheet for 10 minutes at 350 degrees.

    makes 2 - 3 dozen
